Omega 3
What are Omega 3 - Essential
Fatty Acids?
Omega 3 is an Essential
Fatty Acid. Essential Fatty Acids (EFAS) are the "good fats" we need to maintain
a balanced diet. Good fats compete with bad fats, so its important to minimize
the intake of trans fats and cholesterol (bad fat) while consuming enough good
fats. Also, good fats raise your HDL or "good cholesterol". What HDL does is
it helps to flush all the bad fats to the liver where it is broken down to be
removed from the body. In other words, these good fats attack some of the damage
already done by the bad fats.
Omega 3 is important for healthy function of every cell in our body...
Omega 3 - For Good Health

things needed to maintain good health, as it is involved in producing new cells
throughout our body. It is essential to protect against disease and treat illness,
omega 3 helps to maintain optimum health in every cell of your body. Omega 3 (and
omega-6s) are termed essential fatty acids (EFAs) because they are critical for
good health. However, the body cannot make them on its own. For this reason, omega

fats "essential."

Studies of Omega 3
Scientists made one of the first
associations between omega-3s and human health while
studying the Inuit (Eskimo) people of Greenland in the
1970s. As a group, the Inuit suffered far less from
certain diseases (coronary heart disease, rheumatoid
arthritis, diabetes mellitus, psoriasis) than their
European counterparts. Yet their diet was very high
in fat from eating whale, seal, and salmon. Eventually
researchers realized that these foods were all rich
in omega-3 fatty acids, which provided real disease-countering
benefits. Studies have also found that Emu Oil is one
of the highest sources of Omega 3.
Researchers continue to explore this exciting field.
They have found that without a sufficient supply of polyunsaturated
omega-3s, the body will use saturated fat to construct
cell membranes. The resulting cell membranes, however,
are less elastic, a situation that can have a negative
effect on the heart because it makes it harder to return
to a resting state.
